Spotters comments:
Nellie and Charlie, ex Anstruther Lifeboat 1933-1950 single crew Liverpool Class Lifeboat, built at J Samuel White's and The Chieftain 1948 twin screw Liverpool Class Lifeboat, built at Groves and Gutteridge representing the beginning and end of these beautifully built boats that still have great sea keeping qualities. The Chieftain was the last Liverpool Class Lifeboat in service with the RNLI. Tony has restored her faithfully with great workmanship. Nellie and Charlie had a long working life after her successful RNLI service, becoming a fishing boat, a ferry, a liveaboard cruiser and is now undergoing a partial rolling restoration as a cruiser as an example of the National Historic Ships fleet as a testimony to the build qualities of these important boats. Nellie and Charlie will not be restored in the same manner as the Chieftain as many of her original fittings have been removed over the years, the owner's philosophy is to keep the hull and remaining original fittings intact and to enjoy keeping her running as a classic cruiser.
